Parent help school fair

Can you help? Spare 30minutes or even an hour?

We desperately need more parent help to enable our Wash Against Waste Truck to run smoothly. This is our classroom stall for the fair and we would really appreciate more parent support so it works.

We need parents to help for the time slot 12.30pm - 1.30pm and 1.30pm - 2.30pm, if you are able to come along and support E-learning and our Wash Against Waste stall we would be very appreciative. This will be the busiest time at the fair and we need more hands on deck! We need at the minimum 4 parents per hour.

For all those parents who haves signed up to help, thank you so much. We would not be able to run our stall without you.

The wash against waste truck will be located opposite Room 1 on the edge of the school field and by the entrance to reception. We are right next to all the food stalls. You will not be able to miss us, look out for large flags and a solar panel on top of the trailer!  You don't need to bring anything just turn up, everything provided e.g gloves, tea towels.

Fun Fact: Arahoe is the first Primary School to have the Wash Against Waste Truck at an event. So come support E-learning and the school promoting the importance of having a Waste Free event and protecting the environment

Korean marching band

This afternoon all off Arahoe gathered to watch the Korean Marching Band from an Elementary school in Korea.  We loved hearing the different instruments and the traditional dancing.

Spelling

The spelling lists, that the students are tested on every Friday, are up to reading level orange. Once they have finished all the lists we will be testing them by asking them to write the words in sentences by oral dictation, as we have found that a lot of the students have memorised the words but cannot write them in a story.

Parent Help - Spring Fair

Hello parents,

As you are aware the spring fair is on the 31st of October, a Saturday, from 11am until 3pm. We would love some more parent help to assist on our stall " Wash against Waste". We are needing four parent helpers per hour to assist with washing the dishes.

Mrs Turner is also helping with managing the new entrant stall ( Room 20 and Room 19) too, which is the ECO STALL.  They are having trouble with parent help. This stall is selling honey from the school beehives and eco reusable coffee cups by Ideall Cup. Each cup sold will get a free coffee from the Block CafĂ© on sight at the fair. If you are interested in helping on the ECO stall after ( or as an alternative) your slot on our stall  please contact danat@arahoe.school.nz with a time you would like to help. I will arrange for you.

Thanks, Dana

Poems about light

We wrote cinquain poems light, fire, candles and fire works. We had to only use describing words. Aren't the poems impressive, the descriptive language they thought of and used really bring up imagines of candles flickering and fires burning. Next time your in the class room please come and have a look.

Stop drop and roll

Part of this terms topic is learning about fire safety, on Monday the students learnt a new physical education game called fireman tag, there were two fireman and two students who were fire or smoke. If a child was tug by a red (fire) ball they had to stop drop and roll, if tug by the blue (smoke) ball they had to crawl. The firemen ( with hula hoops) then ran around having to save the students who were crawling or stop, drop and rolling!

Celebration of Light

Welcome to term 4

This terms topic is Diverse Diyas, part of this topic is relating to the celebration of light.  We would like to have a strong family involvement, we would like each students to bring in artefacts from home on how they celebrate light.. it could be anything such as special clothing you wear for Diwali, Christmas, Halloween, or even photos of your family celebrating guy fawks! If you could bring in your child's artefact this week we will be able to put together the class display.

Also, if you would like to come into the classroom to teach the class something about how your culture celebrates light such as Diwali, Halloween, Diyas, rangoli, henna design please contact danat@arahoe.school.nz or jaimeep@arahoe.school.nz or come and see us at school. We would love to have parents able to come in and share their culture.
