Dictation

This week we have been focusing on dictation with the children in their small reading groups. We will say a sentence and the children have to write down the sentence, each sentence will have high frequency words and then harder words such as wheel, friend, blue. We are encouraging the children to listen for the phonemes individual sounds in these words and write them down. This is the second step to indepdant writing. 

We are also encouraging the children to take a visual snap shot of words .write it down and then look up to the ceiling or close their eyes as they try to write it again. We had a lot of proud children when they were successful.
