Today for maths we were exploring
fractions of volume using coloured water and glass jars. Miss Pollock filled
four glass jars up with different water levels 1/4 1/2/3/4 and whole. We then
added food colouring to distinguish each jar.
We listened to the sound that each jar
made and compared how the sound changed. We knew we were successful when we
were able to identify basic fractions, and understand that the fraction of
waster in each glass produces a different pitch.
The students then wrote their own colourful melody, without even knowing how to read music. We let the children make a hypothesis about why the glasses of water project different sounds, was it the colour of the water?
