Hieroglypic Pendants

The students of E-Learning have developed a keen interest and fascination with Ancient Egyptian history this year. It all started when one of the students brought in a miniature sarcophagus ( Egyptian tomb) to show the class. Their captivation continued when they made the discovery that the ancient Egyptian's used a different system of writing than us called hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics involved a series of "picture" words, where each letter of the alphabet was illustrated by a symbol/picture. Each student designed and hand crafted the shape of their clay pendant. Once they were happy with the shape they then carved the hieroglyphic symbol to represent the first letter of their name. The students wanted to make a piece of art that they could interact with and wear each day. They took great delight and pride in the construction of their unique pendants.   Each student has hand plaited a rope necklace that the pendant will be displayed on.

The money raised from selling the children's art will go towards " project outdoors" updating the schools gardens and playing areas for the students. For more information and to view your child's art work please click on the link below.  Art that is not purchased by families will remain at school as school property. If you would like to buy your child's pendant please pay at the office or in class.
