Spider Man Writing
Today one of the boys for news brought in a Spider-Man toy that was magnetic. The children had so much fun looking at the photos of Spider-Man around Conor's home climbing things the we thought it would be fun to let Spider-Man climb around our class we then wrote stories about where we saw Spider-Man.

Spelling testing
Hello parents,
A reminder that we are testing the children on their spelling words tomorrow. Please make sure your child has their spelling list inside their book bag. If your child can read, write and orally spell their spelling words then they will be given a second list.

News Bag
This week some of the children in the class have brought home the news reporter bag. The role of the news reporter is for the child to choose a special something to bring into the class and share with their peers. It can be anything - a book, a picture, a toy or even some cards. The children love looking at their peers news so something that can be held is great! I am trying to only encourage the child who has the news reporter bag is the one who shares news. Otherwise we have a lot of news to share with 30 children!

Spelling
We cut up words today and had the tricky task of having to put the words back together! Parents this is an excellent thing to do at home with their spelling words. you write a word down cut it up into letters and then get your child to put it back together in correct order. It's tricky for the little ones as they have to unscramble the letters mentallyvisualise what the word looks like and put it back together. I do this in class as it makes me aware if the children are secure in the word with how to spell, make and read it and it is not rope learnt. Happy spelling!
Making a worm farm
This afternoon for science we made a worm farm. A worm farm is a plastic container that has three tiers and contains tiger worms. Tiger worms are special worms that are composting - they eat vegetable and fruit scraps. This worm bin will be placed in the school garden along side our other two worm bins. Mrs Turner emptied the bucket of Tiger Worms onto a large mat for us to examine. We learnt what tiger worms look like, how they move and that they don't have eyes, teeth or a nose. We made the worm house by adding paper ripped up into tiny pieces, grass, cardboard and dirt. We then added food scraps left over from our lunch boxes. If your interested in having a worm farm at home please come in and speak to Mrs Turner we would be happy to give you a container of worms to get you started. Tiger worms can eat up to 3kgs of good scraps a week !!
Feijoa picking
Today we picked feijoas from the school garden and then wrote stories. At morning tea time we ate the feijoas. Delicious!

Spelling lists
Today all children took home their first spelling list. Their list has five words that they need to learn to read, spell aloud and write by memory. I test the children on their spelling words every Friday. Once the children can read write and spell those words they get a sticker next to the word and once they know all of them they are given a new spelling list . Once each child had two spelling lists they will be kept together on a ring. Please try not to lose the spelling lists - if a child does lose their spelling lists it costs $3 for a new list - this takes into account the cost of printing, laminating and the ring to attach it together. The children's spelling lists are in their book bag.
Writing in our books
Today two writing groups wrote in their books . They were learning how to use words they know to write a story. We used the words I went to the... Look at how clever these children are. Their words sit on the line under broken branch and they write down the sounds they heard in tricky words. Well done.
